 2017 Preview 


       Catholic completed the 2016 season with a 8-3 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 4A region two, the Knights earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Catholic's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Thomasville by a score of 20-6.

       The Knights improved in 2016 with their first winning season since 2008. The Knights won as many games as in any season since 1994. It marked the first time since the 2008 season that the Knights qualified for the playoffs. The Knights last playoff victory came during the 1989 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, Catholic has gone a combined 25-45. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 4A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Catholic has managed to compile a record of 98-164. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 4A and 304th in the AHSAA.

       The Knights are led by head coach Aubrey Blackwell who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-9 over the past two seasons at Catholic. Under his direction the Knights have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Blackwell.

       Coach Blackwell's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 12-9 (57.1%).

       Coming off their best season since 1994, the Knights are looking forward to an even better year in 2017.

       The Catholic Knights will play in Class 4A region two during the 2017 season.

       The Knights will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region two this season.

      Hunter Ferrall returns for his Senior season after completing 94 of 190 passes for 1,542 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1220 yards and another 23 scores.

      Senior Tyler Price returns after rushing for 1,220 yards on 191 carries and scoring 23 touchdowns.

      The defense returns Senior free safety B.J. Barker who collected 4 interceptions along with Senior Charlie Ryan who got 5 sacks for 31 yards in losses last season.

       The Knights open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Central Coosa on Friday, August 25 at Central Stadium. Last year the Central Coosa Cougars finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 3A region three. The Cougars closed out the regular season with a loss to Childersburg by a score of 82-64.

       Catholic and Central Coosa have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Knights have a 2-0-0 record against the Cougars. They last met in 2016 with Catholic winning by a score of 50-28.

       College prospects include: Charlie Ryan (6-4, 252) defensive end, Parker Dennis (6-1, 205) linebacker, Tyler Price (5-10, 200) running back,
